The prestigious American magazine Forbes has highlighted the richness that distinguishes Morocco in the sector of environmentally friendly tourism, stressing that Morocco is the destination of choice for people in search of nature and tranquility.
“Since it is increasingly easy to travel to Morocco from Europe and America thanks to direct flights (from New York and Miami to Casablanca for example), the country (the Kingdom) has a new attraction for people who want to get off the beaten path, venture into nature and choose calm over chaos,” the magazine writes in an article titled “Morocco Beyond Marrakech: Soulful Luxury in the Mountains, in the by the sea and in the desert”.
Quoting Alex Win, an international travel designer established in Marrakech for ten years, the American publication indicates that the ocher city “is often in the circuit”, but tourists “want to see other parts of the country”, noting that Morocco has a “multitude of things worth appreciating”.
“Even the surroundings of Marrakech are increasingly worth visiting, especially the northern industrial zone of Sidi Ghanem, which is home to innovative brands,” says the author of the article Ann Abel, adding that in the mountains of the Atlas, near Marrakech, stands as a paradise for hikes, mountain biking and homemade tagines.
An hour from the ocher city, is the Agafay desert, an increasingly popular place for lunch or dinner excursions in favor of simple but delicious cuisine, writes the publication.
Additionally, Forbes points out that while Marrakech is increasing its rural accommodation alternatives outside of the city, so too is Essaouira, a coastal fishing town known for its Jewish history, Portuguese fortress and strong trade winds that make from the beach a popular spot for kite surfing.
“Beyond the surfing culture, Essaouira’s city center has become a place of international cafés and a bustling medina in its own right,” says the American magazine.
