There are many reasons why cervical cancer is called a “silent killer” among women, and most of all the condition does not show any symptoms until it reaches its advanced stage, and this disease develops slowly, so you have plenty of time to get the right treatment To stop the disease from progressing any further.
A person can take appropriate action only if they are well aware of the common symptoms of cervical cancer. Here are some common signs of cervical cancer that you should know.
Abnormal vaginal bleeding
Abnormal vaginal bleeding is the first sign observed in most cases of cervical cancer. When cancer cells begin to spread to the tissues surrounding the uterus, a woman may experience irregular bleeding, which is often followed by fatigue and dizziness.
Abnormal bleeding is also a sign of other reproductive system disorders such as PCOS and hormonal imbalance, and it is best not to take this sign lightly and consult your gynecologist immediately.
Bleeding following intercourse
It can happen following sex for a variety of reasons, it may be due to skin irritation, excessive vaginal tightening, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal dryness and the worst type of cervical cancer.
Pain during intercourse is also associated with the growth of precancerous cells in the cervix.
Abnormal vaginal discharge
Vaginal discharge is completely normal, depending on what type of discharge you have, when you have cervical cancer.
The discharge is usually foul-smelling and pink, brown or bloody, and sometimes it may also contain bits of cancerous cell tissue, so examine your vaginal secretions carefully and if you notice these symptoms see your doctor.
Pelvic pain
Women experience lower back pain from time to time. This is very common during the menstrual cycle, but in the case of cervical cancer, you may experience persistent pelvic pain if the cancer is in an advanced stage and has spread to other parts of the body.
Unexplained weight loss
Just like other types of cancers, cervical cancer also leads to loss of appetite which leads to unexplained weight loss, if you are not following any diet or not trying to shed kilos then there is no need to lose weight, this is actually a red flag to look out for and take appropriate action.
Any kind of flatulence, indigestion, a change in bowel habit, weight loss and loss of appetite can be a sign of cancer.
