The conversation between Ramos and Rubiales was via written and audio messages on the WhatsApp application.
Those short messages began in 2018 when the defender wanted the president of the Spanish Federation to rely on his contacts and help him win the Ballon d’Or in 2019.
Ramos was among the expanded list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or in 2018, which was eventually won by Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.
Ramos sent messages to Rubiales to ask for his help in winning the Ballon d’Or.

In one of those correspondences, Ramos said: “Ruby, good evening. I hope you are doing well with the whole family. You know I’ve never asked you anything, but if I wanted to do it today, it’s because I think it’s a special year looking at the shows.” provided by you”.

In reply to him, Rubiales said, he would help him, if he might, but he had limited power over such things.
And the response read: “Hello, Sergio.. First of all, congratulations. I think it’s been a good year for you to achieve the award.. I hope you have a great final in the Champions League.. Of course, it is not up to me regarding the Ballon d’Or, but if it is I can help you, you can count on me.”
Ramos then responded in an understanding tone, saying, “I know it doesn’t depend on you, but relationships are essential too.”
It is noteworthy that the Argentine star, Lionel Messi, who is currently a colleague of Ramos in Paris, was the one who won the Ballon d’Or for the year 2019 presented by “France Football” magazine.
