Jerusalem – For the second day in a row, hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Monday, on the occasion of the Jewish “Thrake Day,” under police guard.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that hundreds of settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Mughrabi Gate in the western wall of the mosque, under guard by the Israeli police.
The witnesses added that the settlers performed Talmudic rituals and prayers in the mosque, in addition to “epic prostration,” where they threw their bodies on the ground toward the Dome of the Rock.
They pointed out that the raids took place in large groups, guarded by the Israeli police, who imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the mosque.
Right-wing Israeli groups called for massive incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque on the occasion of the Jewish “Thrake Day,” which began last Wednesday and will continue for a week.
The Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem said in a statement that 1,780 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, in the morning and afternoon.
The frequency of raids on the mosque usually increases during periods of Jewish holidays, and takes place in two periods, in the morning and after the noon prayer, with facilities and escort from the Israeli police.
Since 2003, the Israeli police have unilaterally allowed settlers to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque for several hours a day, except Friday and Saturday, despite repeated opposition from the Islamic Endowments Department, which calls for an end to these raids.
