For the Grocers of Córdoba, food rose 14% in October and kept inflation in double digits

The Department of Statistics and Trends of the Center of Storekeepers and Retailers of the Province of Córdoba, registered an Inflation of 10.9% for the month of October of this year.

The accumulated inflation During the ten months of 2023 it is 130,4 %. While the interannual rate is 157.7%. Technical Inflation Projected for all of 2023, it was estimated at 189%.

For the city’s retail businesses, the price increase exceeded double digits in August (13.3%), September (11.2%) and October. There is no downward trend, but rather a tendency to maintain this level of increases.

The Total Basic Basket – determining the poverty line – reached $371,979 last month. In this way, it becomes the minimum value that a family of 4 members needed during that period to basically cover food and non-food expenses.

The main percentage variations of the items that make up the Basic Basket Total, during October they were the following:

  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 14.67%
  • Foods and non-alcoholic drinks: 14.28%
  • Clothing and footwear: 12.87%
  • Recreation and culture: 10.77%
  • Restaurants and hotels: 10.70%
  • Miscellaneous goods and services: 9.20%
  • Home equipment and maintenance: 9.16%
  • Education: 9.12%
  • Housing, water, electricity and other fuels: 8.24%
  • Transportation and communications: 7.48%
  • Health: 5.35%

The indigence line – for that same type of family of 4 members stood at $217,891, according to the registered value of the Basic Food Basket, which suffered an increase of 14.3% during said period.

Post-election tension: an economist assures that “all indicators are getting worse day by day”

The most relevant social indicators, obtained in this Economic and Social Report, carried out on a population sample of the Province of Córdoba, through personal and individual surveys of Heads of Households, are the following:

  • During October 2023, 46.6% of Households might not access all of the foods that make up the Basic Food Basket (CBA).
  • Of those households that were able to fully access the CBA, only 24.2% were able to do so with their own resources; while the remaining 75.8% were assisted with some type of state aid (AUH / Alimentar Card – 21% VAT refund – Social Card of the Province of Córdoba. and/or others.) to achieve that objective.
  • 77.2% of Family Groups had to spend more than 50% of their total income during October 2023, only on food.
  • 85.7% of Households had to finance food during October 2023 (44.1% with credit cards, 39.3% with credit and/or 2.3% with borrowed money).
  • 69.1% of the families surveyed stated that they had not been able to meet the current and/or contingency expenses for the month of October 2023. And those who were able to afford these expenses did so using credit cards mostly.
  • 53% of Family Groups had to spend money saved to cover essential expenses for the October 2023 period.

The main debts in arrears of the families surveyed were:

– Credit Cards 40.6%

– Fees, Taxes and Services 27.7%

– Credits and Loans 10.4%

– Prepaid Health 9.1%

– Private Education 7.2%
