For 35 years, the ZR1 designation has been reserved for the most powerful and aggressive versions of the Corvette. The latest mid-engine eighth-generation model now carries this badge. Unlike its C6 and C7 predecessors, which featured supercharged engines, this new model is equipped with a twin-turbocharged engine for the first time in the model’s history, enabling it to enter the hypercar category.

The interior of the ZR1 variant has not seen significant changes compared to the base model. It retains the same dashboard with a prominent cockpit and a 12-inch instrument display, along with an eight-inch screen for the media system. The modifications are primarily cosmetic, with ZR1 branding on the steering wheel and thresholds, as well as a dedicated boost pressure gauge.

Thanks to its twin-turbochargers, the Corvette ZR1 achieves hypercar-level performance: the 5.5-liter V8 engine with a flat crankshaft produces 1,079 hp and 1,121 Nm of torque! The engine pairs with a reinforced eight-speed preselective automated transmission, sending power exclusively to the rear axle. The manufacturer has yet to disclose precise performance metrics, only stating that the maximum speed will exceed 346 km/h, with a quarter-mile time of less than 9.7 seconds (exit speed of 241 km/h).

The coupe has a curb weight of 1,665 kg (compared to 1,530 kg for the standard Corvette), while the roadster weighs 1,705 kg. The Corvette ZR1 features carbon-ceramic brakes with 400 mm discs in the front and 390 mm in the rear. Consequently, the new ZR1 can accelerate from 129 to 322 km/h (from 80 to 200 mph) and can brake from 129 km/h in just 24.5 seconds, which is 22% faster than the previous-generation ZR1. Additionally, buyers can opt for the ZTK track package, which enhances aerodynamics for better track performance. The creators mentioned that while the standard ZR1 is the king of speed, the ZTK package transforms it into the king of racetracks. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires are also expected to add to this capability.

The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is set to hit the market next year. The developers admitted they were compelled to reveal the ZR1 before completing road tests due to the camouflage affecting measurement results and the car’s high visibility to photo spies. While pricing details remain undisclosed, the naturally aspirated Corvette Z06 currently starts at a minimum of $110,000.
