Germany, Spain and Belgium were the three biggest importers of Vietnamese tuna in the EU last year. Particularly in December 2022, tuna exports to Germany and Spain are increasing “gallopingly” at 3 digits, 161% and 117% respectively.

Notable among the countries participating in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is Japan. Vietnam’s tuna exports to this market have grown continuously in the last quarter of 2022.
In December alone, tuna exports to Japan increased by 131% over the same period. Significantly contributing to bringing Vietnam’s tuna to the CPTPP market reached nearly 136 million USD, up 48% compared to 2021.
Faced with inflation, many markets saw a significant drop in tuna imports. Typically, in the US market, following a decline in November, exports to this market continued to decrease by 38% in December 2022. However, for the whole year of 2022, tuna exports to the US still increased by 44%, reaching nearly 487 million USD.
