For the first time, scientists grew plants on the soil of the Moon

According to the BBC news, scientists from the University of Florida in the United States planted seeds of the arabidopsis plant of the cruciferous family in lunar soil collected during the 1962-1972 Apollo missions to the Moon.

It was observed that the seeds sprouted after 2 days, so for the first time, the seeds were successfully grown on lunar soil.

As part of the study, the University of Florida team was provided with 1 gram of soil per plant.

Scientists expressed surprise at the emerging situation, stating that the developing outbreak slowed down and remained stunted.

The research is considered an important step for the NASA (United States Aviation and Space Administration) project to establish a settlement on the Moon.

NASA astronauts brought back 382 kilograms of lunar soil, core samples, pebbles, sand, and dust from the lunar surface during the 1962-1972 Apollo missions.
