The candidate for mayor for La Libertad Primero, Verónica Sikora, reopened this Monday the debate in relation to mobility applications, such as Uber and Cabify, which are not authorized by the municipality of Córdoba.
“Every day there are more residents who choose this technology as a mobility alternative. These services have not been regulated by the Municipality of Córdoba. However, they are persecuted permanently, even if they were criminals. People need freedom to work,” he said.
“The lack of specific regulation does not imply that the activity is prohibited. It is absurd that we spend millions chasing Uber and Cabify drivers, like in the game of cat and mouse. Córdoba’s money must be used for services and not for that, ”he confirmed.
Regarding the use of the service, Sikora said: “People want to be free to choose what suits them. The applications provide multiple benefits, for example, knowing who the driver is, knowing which vehicle will transport them, accessing the rating between partner, driver-passenger, in the case of Uber. Have security measures, such as recording the trip, etc. Expressing that Uber is insecure highlights the lack of knowledge regarding the app.
“Consumers have already chosen. It is impossible to stop the global advancement of technology and applications. We cannot live disconnected from the world, ”he insisted.
Regarding the situation of the applications in the country and the background in other regions, he mentioned: “In the case of the city of Buenos Aires, years ago the same situation occurred that we are going through in Córdoba, taxi drivers had to choose between adapting or staying apart from the distribution of passengers. Thus, more and more taxi drivers choose to join the application. This same scenario is beginning to occur in Córdoba”.
“On the other hand, in mid-March of this year, it was learned that the company Uber opened a registry for taxi drivers in all cities of the country within its platform so that they can start making trips through the application. It would be absurd for the Municipality of Córdoba to think of creating an app for local taxis and remises. It shows the lack of knowledge of the trends that are taking place in the world and in the country, and shows the need to continue adding tax charges to taxis and remises ”, he questioned.
“The liberals proclaim the principle of competition to achieve better services, of quality and at the best price. The best policy that can be carried out is the one that benefits the consumer” reaffirmed Sikora.
