For pop star Shakira, her songs are “the best therapy”

Pop star Shakira’s music has helped her split from her ex-husband, soccer star Gerard Piqué. “My songs are the best therapy,” the Colombian singer said Monday in her first interview since the release of her new hit “BZRP Music Session #53”. The songs are “more effective than a session with a psychologist or psychoanalyst”.

The recording of the hit in January was “an outlet” for her, said the 46-year-old in an interview on Mexican television. “I went into the studio in one state of mind and came out in another.” If it weren’t for that song and a chance to reflect on the pain, she “wouldn’t be where I am today,” Shakira added.

With the text of her new single, the singer shares the lines once morest her ex-husband and his new partner with the lines: “A lot of sport, but also train your brain a bit”, “You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo” and ” I will not come back to you even if you cry or beg”.

With over 60 million albums sold, Shakira is one of the most successful musicians of the past two decades. In June last year, she separated from Piqué following twelve years of relationship. The two have two children together and have been voted among the top 10 “most powerful couples in the world” by the US magazine “Forbes” several times.
