If he has been a hit with his humorous videos on social networks for more than ten years, Jérémy Nadeau, followed by 3.6 million subscribers on YouTube, is now trying his luck as a stand-upper. The 31-year-old Frenchman will present his first show, “Beaucoup trop”, at the Théâtre de la Madeleine, in Geneva, on May 25, as well as at the Théâtre de Colombier, in the canton of Neuchâtel, on May 31.

You have a business background. What prompted you to become a comedian?

I have always been passionate regarding theater and humor in general. After finishing business studies, I told myself that I had to change paths because I didn’t see myself in it at all. Me, what thrilled me was making jokes, making people laugh, acting. I preferred to find fulfillment in this area rather than working in sales, which would have just allowed me to have financial stability.

Were you encouraged by your family in this career choice?

Yes, I have always had fairly strong support from those close to me. I had just promised my mother that I would get a diploma so that I might work in case my artistic career did not work out.

We have known you on the web, with your sketches on YouTube and on social networks which have been a hit. Why a one man show today?

Before becoming a YouTuber, I did theatre. After ten years on YouTube, I was starting to miss it and I told myself that I was going to refocus on the stage. I wanted to rediscover the contact with the public that I did not have on social networks.

What is your show, “A lot too” regarding?

It’s my first show. So, I introduce myself, I talk a lot regarding myself, what I live and how I see life. All I can say is that it’s very, very funny! Most of the things I tell are autobiographical.

What does humor mean to you?

A therapy. As much for the public as for me. It makes me feel good to make people laugh. And I say it precisely in a sketch of my show. I think it’s a relief to talk regarding certain things in front of strangers.

Now that you’re on stage, do you still want to make videos on the Net?

There, my priority is the show. I think I will post videos only if I have really good ideas. I also have other projects on the side, which really make me vibrate, like filming…

You just play in the “Black Hearts” miniseries on Prime Video. Would you also like to have an acting career?

Totally. It is also a job that I dreamed of doing since childhood. It really excites me. I love being in front of a camera, as much as being on stage. That’s why I mightn’t choose between the two.
