Over the course of 21 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), Marc-André Fleury has lost none of his humility.

The Quebec goaltender is well aware that he will receive praise throughout the 2024-2025 season, which will be the last of his brilliant career. However, he does not want to be treated differently from his teammates.
“I don’t want any special treatment,” he told the media, his smile splitting from ear to ear. “I just want to go.” [sur la glace] and look around to collect memories of my time in the NHL.”

The player who began his career in the 2003-2004 season is currently sharing the ice with players born in 2006 at the Minnesota Wild camp. A nice way, in a way, to pass the torch. But to keep up the pace at 39 years old, Fleury has had to make many sacrifices.
“It’s surreal, really. I’ve had to take care of my body over the years. Do the right things to stay in shape. I’ve had help off the ice to help me move forward all these years,” said the Sorel native who will turn 40 on November 29.
A better start
In his final season in the Bettman league, Fleury hopes to lead the Wild to the playoffs after failing to make the playoffs in 2023-24. But to do so, the team will need to show more consistency and get off to a better start.
“We’ve had a few tough starts in the last few seasons. That plays a big part towards the end of the season when you’re trying to make the playoffs. We had a good talk with the coach yesterday and we have to motivate each other to be ready for Game 1.”
