For 100,000 Styrian customers: District heating tariff will not increase on October 1st

For around 100,000 district heating customers of Energie Steiermark and Energie Graz, this is a grace period, so to speak. The prices for end customers will not be increased as planned from October 1st. The official procedure has not yet been completed by then.

An average increase of around 65 percent was requested – which means an average of around 50 euros more per month. The reason for this is, unsurprisingly, the sharp rise in purchase prices.

As reported, the district heating prices are subject to their own regulatory system, so increases must be submitted to the Styrian provincial government and will then be checked in an official procedure.

In the course of this procedure, an expert report was ordered, which has not yet been issued. The price authority has therefore not scheduled a meeting this week, as insiders confirmed to the Kleine Zeitung. Translated: The next deadline for the tariff increase is November 1st.

Urs Harnik, spokesman for Energie Steiermark, confirms that “the increase will not take place on October 1 because we are still waiting for feedback from the price authorities”. He does not want to speculate on whether the tariff increase will take effect on November 1st.

The last increase in district heating was in April this year – at that time by an average of 20 euros per month and household.
