Indeed, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, a serious incident took place following the second provincial match in East Flanders between SK Kemzeke and Sporting Sint-Gillis-Waas. The locals had won the derby easily and everything had been planned to make the followingnoon a party since a giant barbecue had been organized following the match.

But following the match, a member of Kemzeke’s management was violently attacked by four people. According to our colleagues, the protagonists knew each other and it might be revenge linked to a team composition at a time when everyone played in the same club!

The victim was expected and was attacked as she returned home with, among other things, a broken bottle. The man was beaten in the face and all over his body. Seriously injured, he was taken to hospital.
For both clubs, it was a shock. The match took place in a perfect state of mind and contacts were made following the incident to ensure mutual support. The four attackers tried to flee but were arrested by the police.
