Football.. The most exciting women’s match in Olympic history

The match witnessed almost unprecedented excitement in women’s football at the Olympics. The Zambian team opened the scoring early through Barbara Banda in the first minute, but Alana Kennedy quickly equalized for Australia in the seventh minute.

Rachel Kundanangi put Zambia back in front in the 21st minute, before Banda added her second and her country’s third in the 33rd minute, but Hayley Raso quickly restored Australia’s hopes with a second goal in the 35th minute.

Banda continued her brilliance and scored her third goal, the hat-trick, in the first minute of stoppage time in the first half, which ended with Zambia leading (4-2) over Australia.

The Zambian players were not satisfied with this result, as the fifth goal came through Kundanangi in the 56th minute, so many thought that the match was over in favor of the African team, but the Australian women rose up at the right time, as Michelle Hayman and Stephanie Catley scored the third and fourth goals for Australia in the 58th and 65th minutes, before Catley added the fifth goal for Australia in the 77th minute from a penalty kick, while Hayman scored the sixth winning goal in the 90th minute.

Australia achieved its first victory in Group 2, to obtain the first 3 points, while Zambia remained at the bottom of the standings with no points, after suffering its second consecutive defeat.
