Football: Raphaël Varane ends his career: “Regrets nothing”

The well-traveled centre-back made a breakthrough in the parent club Lens before moving on to the Spanish big club Real Madrid. There were ten extremely successful seasons – often alongside Sergio Ramos in the celebrated centre-back role.

In total, he won the Spanish league three times and the Champions League four times.

He then moved on to Manchester United, with whom he won the FA Cup last season. Ahead of this year’s season, he signed for Serie A newcomer Como. But there won’t be a continued career on the pitch – instead, a new challenge awaits with the Italian club on the sidelines.

However, Varane does not want to reveal exactly what it is about.

“I will remain in Como. But without using my football boots and shin guards. It’s something I’m looking forward to and will tell you more about soon,” he writes.

Varane also has a long and successful national team career behind him. The big highlight was 2018 when he won World Cup gold with France. Varane played from the start when Croatia were defeated 4–2 in the World Cup final in Moscow.

“I have no regrets. I wouldn’t change a thing. I have won more than I could have ever dreamed of,” he writes.

Varane then ends his long post on Instagram by thanking football.
