The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has found a large business to sponsor the VFF to pay the salary of the new coach Philippe Troussier. And the contract signing ceremony between VFF and Mr. Troussier will take place on the morning of February 27 in Hanoi.
As planned, at 7:00 am on February 26, Mr. Philippe Troussier will be at Noi Bai airport. After the welcome ceremony, Mr. Troussier will be taken home to his own home within the premises of VFF headquarters.
Four months to solve the “where’s the money?”
From October 2022, VFF and Coach Park Hang Seo announced that they would not renew the contract. That was also the time when VFF leaders embarked on the process of finding a new head coach for Vietnamese football.
In addition, VFF has to start looking for funding sources to pay the coach’s salary. Previously, in 2017, when Coach Park Hang Seo came to Vietnam, Mr. Park’s salary was more than 700 million VND/month.
For the first two years, elected Duc sponsored the VFF to pay Mr. Park’s salary. Three years later, Mr. Park Hang Seo’s salary is regarding 50,000 USD/month (following tax). At this time, VFF received two big sponsorship packages from Hung Thinh Group and Vingroup to pay Mr. Park and his assistants.
Mr. Tran Anh Tu, vice president in charge of VFF expertise, said coach Philippe Troussier’s salary was higher than the salary that Mr. Park had received. Therefore, over the past 4 months, VFF leaders have worked hard with sponsors to find financial sources to pay Mr. Troussier’s salary.
On February 23, the newspaper’s information said that VFF had closed with a large enterprise. This unit will sponsor VFF to pay the salary of new coach Philippe Troussier. With this support, VFF has successfully negotiated to bring a World Cup-sized coach to lead the Vietnamese team.
Mr. Tran Anh Tu said the negotiation process between the two sides went smoothly. Coach Troussier is willing to “sacrifice” a bit regarding salary to ensure that he can demonstrate his football philosophy in Vietnam.
Strengthening the team of assistants for Coach Troussier
At 9:00 am on February 27, VFF and coach Philippe Troussier will put pen to paper to sign the contract. Mr. Troussier officially became the new head coach of the U22/U23 team and the national team from March 1, 2023 to July 31, 2026.
For more than 3 years, coach Troussier’s biggest goal is to strive to bring the Vietnamese team to the final round of the 2026 World Cup. In the immediate future, Mr. Troussier has the task of bringing the U22 Vietnam team to the final. to win the 32nd SEA Games gold medal next May.
A VFF leader said that the consolidation of the assistant team for coach Troussier in the national team and U22 is underway. Mr. Troussier will have the support of two French assistants, Cedric Roger (fitness coach), Moulay Azzegogouarh (professional assistant).
Both of these assistants are the people who worked with Mr. Troussier when he was technical director of PVF Center during 2018 – 2021.
Recently, fitness coach Cedric Roger has signed a contract with VFF. Mr. Cedric has closely followed the activities of the national teams, the national women’s team. Mr. Cedric’s expertise is considered excellent by VFF.

U22 Vietnam team focuses from 1-3
VFF and coach Troussier have set a time to gather both the U22 team and the national team from March 1. Accordingly, the national team will gather from March 8 to 12.
It is expected that regarding 28 players will be summoned, of which the core are the faces who have fought in the past time.
The main purpose of this gathering is to familiarize the players with the new philosophy of the new style of play that the new head coach Philippe Troussier will apply.
The U22 team will have four focus periods in March, starting from March 1, to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games.
Initially, the U22 Vietnam team will have 35 players and 5 goalkeepers, but it will be reduced to 24 players and 3 goalkeepers to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games. From March 18 to 29, the U22 Vietnam team Nam is expected to attend a friendly tournament in the UAE.
