The family of young international rugby player Madi Nargisi, who disappeared off the coast of South Africa on August 7, contacted the Agen prosecutor’s office on Wednesday in the hope of starting a process to “find the cause of the disappearance.”

Me Édouard Martial, a lawyer for the player’s parents and sister, told AFP: “I ask the prosecutor to open an investigation into the reasons for the disappearance so that the investigating judge can hear the views of all members of management.” southwest.

The newspaper noted that the report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office of the town of Agen, where Medi Nagsi lives. He was traveling to South Africa with the France U18 team when the tragedy occurred.

Mr Martial hoped that the president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) and “all those involved in the French U18 team, especially the players who fell into the water” would express their views.

Lawyer says ‘a mistake was made’

The 17-year-old, who was training at the Stade de Toulouse in Agen, was swept away by strong currents while recovering at Dias Beach near the Cape of Good Hope. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said a teammate who tried unsuccessfully to rescue him eventually returned to shore unharmed.

“We already know that a mistake was made, that is, we should not have allowed young players, minors, to go to this beach to recover. That day, there were waves of three to four meters, the water was very cold and, above all, it was considered is extremely dangerous,” criticized the relatives committee, adding that there was no “signal phone” that would have “notified emergency services as quickly as possible”.

The FFR, which has launched an internal investigation, announced on August 15 that it would temporarily suspend members of the French U18 team management team.
