Football: Elfsborg won the west coast derby against IFK Gothenburg – Ahmed Qasem behind everything

It was Elfsborg’s match for the whole penny.

Already after half an hour, Ahmed Qasem found Michael Baidoo who pushed in 1-0 for the home team.

In the second half, Qasem headed the ball to Emil Holten, who was free-kicked. Holten chipped over the goalkeeper and scored his first goal in Elfsborg in cool fashion.

And a few minutes later it was Qasem’s turn to score. The midfielder lunged forward and tapped in a shot return and then celebrated with a gun gesture – a wink to Yusuf Dikec who took Olympic silver in the mixed final in the 10m air pistol.

– It’s from the Olympic guy, it’s inspiration, it was chilly!, says Qasem to SVT Sport.

The 21-year-old had to make do with two assists and a goal in the 3–1 victory.

– We play with incredible intensity, we know what to do, we are tactically superior, it feels like. We take hold of the match and do not let go of that grip.

– We know it was packed and wanted to give the win to the audience. It was for the audience.

”Enorm frustration”

In the final minutes, Gustaf Norlin got a real hit when he reduced it to 3–1, which was also the final result.

– A big disappointment. A huge frustration with the way we play the game. We have to examine ourselves and want to do this, because I don’t think we want to today. We go here and let Elfsborg lead the way. We have to look like we want this, like we want to play for IFK Gothenburg, says Emil Salomonsson.
