Trained in Chênois and Lyon, passed through Dijon, the Genevan will settle down in Bern. He will have his card to play while awaiting the returns of von Ballmoos and Faivre.
The Young Boys had to react to the cascading injuries of their goalkeepers. They recruited Anthony Racioppi (23) from Dijon. The former goalkeeper of the Swiss U21 national team (13 caps) signed a contract until the summer of 2025.
The Genevan was trained among young people from Chênois and Olympique Lyonnais. During the 2019-2020 season, he was part of the OL first team, before joining Dijon in September 2020, where he made 21 appearances in French Ligue 1. This season, Racioppi has played two matches with Dijon in Ligue 2.
In the first round, the Young Boys had to show great flexibility in the goalkeeper position: no less than five different goalkeepers were used due to injuries. “Within the sports management we came to the conclusion that we wanted to minimize the risks for the second part of the season. And when the possibility of bringing in Anthony Racioppi arose, we absolutely wanted to seize this opportunity, ”explained sporting director Christoph Spycher.
Von Ballmoos remains number 1
Currently injured David von Ballmoos and Guillaume Faivre should be given enough time to get back in shape. With Abdullah Laidani and Leandro Zbinden, two talented young goalkeepers are also available. “Racioppi is a promising goalkeeper who has impressively demonstrated his potential both in the Swiss U21 national team and in Dijon. He will be able to help us immediately, ”Spycher continues.
It only remains to be seen if the Genevan will manage to find his place, once David von Ballmoos (No 1) and Guillaume Faivre (No 2) return.
