Football: Alexander Isak historic – best Swede ever in the PL after two goals against Sheffield United

Alexander Isak equalized at 1-1 once morest Sheffield United. Perhaps not a goal that will be remembered for what it meant in terms of results, but all the more because it means that Isak writes himself into the Swedish football history books.

The finish, where the Swede ran free following a well-placed long ball from Jacob Murphy, was his 18th Premier League goal of the season. He is thus the most Swedish goalscorer ever in the league.

He passes Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record, with 17 goals for Manchester United in the 2016/2017 season.

Chasing the shooting league lead

In the same match, he also scored his 19th goal of the season, on a penalty. He is one goal away from the scoring league lead, shared between Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer on 20 goals.

– I’m very happy. It was an important match for us in the hunt for European places and following a bad start we have a good second half, says Isak in Viaplay’s broadcast following the match.

Newcastle pulled away well at the end, but for Isak it stopped at two goals.

– I felt like I wanted to score a hat-trick, I’ve never done that. Many games with two goals, but I’m waiting for the hat-trick, he says.

The match ended 5-1 and means that Sheffield United are relegated to the Championship. The away team’s goal was scored by Malmö FF-raised centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic.
