The sportswear manufacturer Adidas and the German Football Association (DFB) have decided to intervene following strong criticism of the design of some of the numbering of the national team shirts for the next European Football Championships to be held in Germany in June and July. The number 44, in particular, according to many, recalls the runes used as a symbol of the SS of the Nazi era. As a result, as of yesterday morning it was no longer possible to personalize the shirts with your name and number in the Adidas store and Dfb stopped the delivery of the combinations ordered with the 44 in its online store. «This does not meet our personalization guidelines. Please try something else”, is the message that appeared on the Adidas website when making a corresponding selection for shirts with the number 4 or 44.
“The DFB and its partner 11teamsports are responsible for designing the names and numbers,” said Adidas spokesperson Oliver Brueggen following numerous criticisms of the Germany jerseys on social media, Welt reports. According to the Football Association, an alternative design for the number 4 will now be developed together with 11teamsports.
