Asian League Champions League Second Division

This year’s club-level Asian competition has been restructured and divided into three levels of competition. Local representatives Lee & Man and Oriental participate in the secondary Asian League Champions League Second League (AFC Champions League 2). Lee & Man competes with Thai team Bangkok United, Vietnamese league champion Nam Dinh FC and Singapore’s Tampines Rovers in Group G; Orient competes with Japanese professional team Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Australian professional team Sydney FC and Kaya of the Philippines. In Group E.

The two teams had played their first group match earlier. Lee & Man, who played at home, lost 0:2 to Nam Dinh. Their performance was criticized by fans after the game. Lee & Man’s next match will be against Tampines Rovers, the lowest team in the same group, aiming for their first win of this tournament. Oriental, which suffered a heavy defeat against FC Sydney in their first away game, will return to Mong Kok Stadium to face Sanfrecce Hiroshima, currently at the top of the Japanese professional standings. It is expected that the challenge will be even greater. RTHK TV will exclusively broadcast a total of 12 home and away matches between the two Hong Kong clubs.

Hong Kong Premier League (Hong Kong Super League)

This season of the Hong Kong Super League started in late August, and each team has played in at least three matches so far. Although the number of teams has been reduced to nine, the excitement of the competition has only increased, and many games have ended in stoppage time draws or “wins”. After completing the four league games last weekend, Tai Po and Oriental tied for the top spot with 10 points and +8 goal difference, followed closely by Lee & Man and Kitchee. The four teams will meet in October. Lee & Man and Eastern will meet after playing in the AFC Champions League second group stage. Tai Po will also face Kitchee at home.

The “promoted team” Kowloon City has become the biggest surprise team for the time being, with seven points from five games and staying behind the top four teams. Of course, this season’s league adopts a three-round system, and the situation will be more changeable.
