Georginio Wijnaldum is expected this Thursday at Roma to complete his arrival from PSG. Everyone has made efforts for this highly anticipated deal on both sides of the Alps.
After almost a month of discussions and negotiations, the PSG and AS Roma will finalize the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum in the Italian city. After only a year in Paris, the midfielder has not been deemed capable of raising the bar and is one of the players who have been widely invited to leave. Despite his concrete contract and his generous salary, the former Liverpool has made it a priority to find a club in order to avoid spending the season on the sidelines. The idea being of course to find the form to apply for a place at the World Cup with the Netherlands. For this, everyone has made efforts to make the deal happen. This will be the case as follows.
PSG will continue to pay Wijnaldum
???? Done Deal and confirmed! Gini #Wijnaldum to #ASRoma from #PSG on loan with option to buy (€8M), which will become an obligation if he play 50% of the games and #Roma will be in #UCL 2023/24. Contract until 2025 (1+2). #Paris will pay 40% of the salary this season. #trsnsfers https://t.co/Ns69V7AA1U

It is therefore, according to the Italian informant Nicolo Schira, a loan with an option to buy 8 million euros. A price not that bad for PSG, which had recovered Wijnaldum for free last summer, even if the generous salary went with it. The purchase option will become mandatory on two conditions: that the Dutchman plays 50% of the matches, and that AS Roma qualifies for the next Champions League, in 2023-2024. If the midfielder regains his form, he is more than capable of playing half of the matches this season. On the other hand, the Wolf has sometimes had trouble validating his ticket for the C1 in recent years, and this criterion will therefore be decisive. In the meantime, PSG will still drop 40% of his salary which he will continue to pay. For his part, Wijnaldum has agreed to sign a two-year contract, plus an optional third year, if he ever commits definitively to AS Roma at the end of the season. His salary will drop a little in the event of a final signing at AS Roma, even if the advantageous tax legislation for foreigners will make it possible to compensate for a good part of this loss.
