Foot off the gas! Pilsen is preparing a series of new section speed measurements

“Projects are being prepared and will gradually begin to be implemented, it should be ready within regarding a year,” Luděk Šantora, director of the city’s Information Technology Administration, told Novinkám. The city representatives approved the release of the necessary more than ten million crowns a few days ago.

The first will be the monitoring of the reserved lane, which leads in the direction of the center along the most frequented section of Karlovarská trýda, i.e. from the intersection with Lidická to the roundregarding. “We want to launch it there this year during the holidays,” explained Šantora.

According to Pilsen councilor for safety Jiří Winkelhöfer (PRO Plzeň), drivers enter the prohibited lane when Karlovarská is congested. “That is, when there is a crisis situation. But with her, it is less important that the lane for the integrated rescue system remains free,” the councilor pointed out.

Pilsen will add dozens of security cameras to schools and nurseries

The measurement will begin in both directions in Studentská street between Plaská and Kaznějovská and from Gerská to Krašovská. In Karlovarská between the Shell station and Lidická. And on three sections of the western circuit – the first under Košutka is a question mark due to problems with the electricity supply.

“These are places selected based on the recommendations of the state and city police,” stated Winkelhöfer. In addition to the mentioned events, the third city district is preparing a section measurement near Radobyčice and the Municipal Administration of the Public Estate of the City of Pilsen near Radčice.

Sinners are decreasing

Pilsen started the first section measurement in 2015, namely in Plaská Street in the direction from the center. Now it is measured there in both directions, just like in Folmavská street and in U Seřadiště street, i.e. on the Slavic highway feeder. And it works, detected offenses are decreasing, in some places quite steeply.

“In 2022, 8,636 drivers exceeded the speed limit on U Seřadiště Street in the direction of the center, last year there were 3,953,” said Michal Stočes from the municipality’s “misdemeanor” department.

The only section where sinners increased slightly year-on-year is the oldest one in Plaská. Last year, 1630 drivers drove faster than they should have, nine more than in 2022. For comparison – the first year following the beginning of the measurement, there were over four thousand of them.

The biggest extreme? In 2022, a car flew through Folmavska at a speed of 142 kilometers, with a foreigner sitting behind the wheel. “This is apparently the highest ever measured speed in Pilsen,” concluded Stočes.

They attacked at 200 km/h. Three men behind the wheel of powerful cars handed in their driving license on D1 at Easter
