Insae displayed, last Monday August 9, the weekly evolution of the prices of consumer products and their variations in certain main cities, in particular during the week of July 26 to August 1, 2021. We generally notice a continuation of the downward trend despite speculation.
Getting better and better on the Beninese market. During the week of July 26 to August 1, 2021, prices of dried corn kernels saw a decline in all cities except in the city of Parakou, where prices of the product are increasing. Sorghum prices are increasing in the towns of Cotonou, Natitingou, Bohicon and Lokossa while in Porto-Novo, the prices of the product are decreasing. But in the markets of the town of Parakou, prices remained stable.
Gari prices fell during the week in the cities of Cotonou, Porto-Novo, Bohicon and Lokossa, while in the cities of Parakou and Natitingou, prices of the product are increasing. Bean prices recorded a decline in the towns of Cotonou, Natitingou, Bohicon and Lokossa, while product prices increased in Porto-Novo and Parakou. Tomato prices continued their downward trend in the towns of Cotonou, Porto-Novo, Parakou and Lokossa, while the prices of the product increased in the towns of Natitingou and Bohicon. The drop in commodity prices is explained by the abundance of the product on the market. This abundance is linked to the availability of new harvests, while the increase is justified by the scarcity of the commodity on the markets. Onion prices continue to increase in the towns of Cotonou, Porto-Novo, Parakou and Bohicon, while in Natitingou and Lokossa, prices of the commodity are falling.
The increase in onion prices is linked to the end of the season for the variety coming particularly from Malanville and Karimama. The prices of fresh peppers once more showed a drop in the week under review in all the markets visited. The drop in commodity prices is explained by the presence of the new harvest in the markets.
