Food Shots: A Decade of Gastronomic Exploration with Sébastien Benoit

2024-01-04 20:16:03

Sébastien Benoit is celebrating his 30-year career in front of the camera in 2024. The friendly host also has other anniversaries to highlight: his 25 years on the radio, including 20 years at Rythme-FM, his 15 years alongside his lover as well that the 10 years of Food shots.

Food shots is also back on Zeste this Friday, and to highlight a decade of pleasure “discovering and sharing places of gastronomic happiness”, it is his friend Benoit Roberge – his very first Alex Reed in 2015 – who takes the helm of the show for one episode. Sébastien thus lends himself to the game by sharing four addresses that he “really likes”.

Benoit Roberge replaces his friend Sébastien Benoit as host of “Coups de food” for the first episode of the 10th season, just to allow the latter to join in the fun by sharing his best addresses in Montreal.

“I didn’t think I would make it to 10 seasons of Food shots, but following the premiere, I realized that I loved doing this show. When we like a project, when we like the result and when we like the people we work with, we of course hope that it will last as long as possible,” said Sébastien Benoit in an interview with the QMI Agency.

At 51 years old, he is happy to last in the profession and he is grateful to have been able to touch everything.

“What I want is to continue doing what I love and what I am most proud of is having been able to host in different spheres. I was not pigeonholed. I am privileged in what I do, in the fact that I can live from it without having to worry and work with people I love. I have a child of whom I am very proud, a blonde with whom I celebrated my 15th birthday and with whom things are going very well. Honestly, I almost feel embarrassed sometimes because I’m lucky!”

Sébastien Benoit says he cultivates a mixture of “positivism and innocence”.

“I’m not esoteric in life, but it’s true that the positive energy that you bring into your life will come back to you.”

A triple pleasure

The pleasure of holding the helm Food shots is threefold, according to the host.

“There is the pleasure of discovering restaurants, artisans and guests with whom I spend 14 hours chatting in a relaxed manner. It allows you to get to know them from other angles.”

For this special episode where he is the Alex Reed rather than the host, Sébastien Benoit suggests stops at Dax Café, Boucherie Provisions, Swirl to try his vegan soft serve ice cream, then he ends this day – very busy! – at the Japanese refreshment bar Nomi. These businesses, it should be noted, have never been visited before by the team.

During the 10th season, he also went to Quebec to discover the best restaurants of Deputy Prime Minister Geneviève Guilbault and to the Laurentians to meet singer Jonathan Roy in his favorite places. The rest of the season takes place in Montreal or its surroundings with Nour Belkhiria, France D’Amour, Olivier Dion, Matt Duff, Chantal Fontaine, Guy Jodoin, Jean Michel Leblond, Andréanne A. Malette, David Savard and Nathalie Simard.
