There is no risk of a shortage, but the urgency is to help the lowest incomes.
The consequences of the war in Ukraine continue to be felt in Belgium. Food prices continue to rise alarmingly. The price of tomatoes, for example, increased by 18.9%, pasta by 26.19%, certain cheeses by more than 9% and bread by 7.38%. This price increase might have dramatic effects on precarious families and the lower middle class. Low incomes will have to opt for poor quality food, or even be forced to skip meals.
The issue occupies various levels of power who are worried regarding the consequences that this might produce within the population. Some observers fear the emergence of a new wave of anger, like the Yellow Vests movement that shook France in 2018.
