THE rock band Foo Fighters did not give Donald Trump’s campaign permission to play one of their songs at a recent campaign event, a representative for the band said. They plan to donate royalties from the unauthorized use to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

On Friday, the Foo Fighters song “My Hero” was played at a Trump campaign event in Arizona, according to video taken at the event and shared on social media.

However, a spokesperson for the band said in a statement to CNN Sunday that the group did not give the Trump campaign the green light to use their 1997 hit song.

“The Foo Fighters were not asked for permission, and if asked, they would not have given it,” the rep said in a statement, adding that any royalties the band receives “as a result of this use will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.”

This is not the first time a recording artist has denied the use of their music at a Republican presidential candidate’s campaign event.

Earlier this month, Celine Dion issued a statement criticizing Trump’s use of “My Heart Will Go On,” her 1997 ballad, at a campaign event in Montana.

“This use is completely unauthorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” read a statement posted on her social media pages at the time.

The statement also added a quip about the campaign’s choice of music: “And really, THAT SONG?”

On Sunday, Harris’ campaign said it had raised $540 million since she launched her presidential bid less than a month ago. This week, Harris and Walz will embark on a bus tour of Georgia, a key battleground state. (CNN/Z-3)
