On November 1, a Fontanka correspondent walked along Vasilyevsky Island, where a paid parking zone opened. There is some positive news for Gavan, but not for those who like to party at the Blagoveshchensky Bridge.

As a Fontanka correspondent says, on the first day there are not many cars with closed license plates, although there are some. Some signs have not yet been unpacked. Parking is more or less free on the lines, including on Kosoy, where two-way traffic has been introduced, as well as on several other streets. For those who like to park along the Neva and admire the scenery, there are surprises: the exit at the Blagoveshchensky Bridge is now a no-stop zone, but there is parking at the switch.

On the first day of operation of paid parking in the Vasileostrovsky district of St. Petersburg, it became known that on 11 streets the operating hours of the “No Stopping” signs had been changed. They were placed because of paid parking, but the residents were unhappy.

According to the Smolny press service, we are talking regarding the following addresses:

Kartashikhina str. (from Shkiperskogo protoka to Gavanskoy str.);
Veselnaya st. (from Sredny Ave. V.O. to Srednegavansky Ave.);
st. Shevchenko (from no. 34 to Maly Ave. V.O.);
Gavanskaya st. (from Maly Prospect V.O. to house No. 51);
Opochinina st. (from Shkipersky channel to Maly pr. V.O.);
st. Bering (from Maly Ave. V.O. to Shkipersky Channel);
passage without name (from Bering Street to Smolensk Cemetery);
Uralskaya st. (drive along houses 13 and 28B along avenue KIMA);
travel to the monument to the Decembrists;
Nemansky lane;

In addition to signs 3.27 “No stopping”, additional signs 8.5.4 “Validity time” (from 08:00 to 20:00) were installed on these streets. “This will allow residents to park on these streets in the evening and at night,” Smolny writes and refers to a survey according to which “a significant drop in intensity was recorded here at night.”

On another 6 streets where GOST did not allow parking, they will try to get the traffic police to agree to deviate from the rules in order to reduce the standard width of either the parking space or the free roadway:

Kartashikhina str. (from Srednegavanskogo avenue to Havanskogo street);
Opochinina st. (from Bolshoi Ave. V.O. to Maly Ave. V.O.); Gavanskaya st. (from Bolshoi Ave. V.O. behind Maly Ave. V.O.); st. Shevchenko (from Bolshoi Ave. V.O. behind Maly Ave. V.O.); Children’s st. (from Bolshoi Ave. V.O. to Shkipersky Channel on the odd side); an alley without a name (Beketovskaya St.) (from Bering St. to the Smolensk Cemetery).

If the traffic police approves the changes, this will provide another 240 additional parking spaces.

Fontanka reported that residents of the Gavan municipal district complained to officials that signs prohibiting stopping were placed on a number of streets, including those where there is never any congestion. The transport authorities responded that GOST does not allow drawing blue markings at a number of addresses, but they promised to discuss the situation with the traffic police (there are positive examples of such decisions). In addition, they agreed that at some addresses prohibition signs should only operate during the same hours as paid parking, that is, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Let us remind you that paid parking in the Vasileostrovsky district began working on the morning of November 1, Fontanka told how it was prepared. At the last meeting with officials before the launch, local residents criticized the approach of transport and district authorities, proposed postponing its launch until all issues were resolved, and also excluding the specific municipal district “Gavan” from the toll zone. Workers coming to the area – in particular, from the Baltic Plant – demanded parking benefits. Read more regarding this on Fontanka.
