A few days ago, Bloomberg unearthed an email from Jim Ryan that caused a stir. In this electronic missive, the current CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment addressed the judgment of Roe v. Wade, at the heart of many discussions in the United States, and asked his employees to respect everyone’s opinions. The controversy then broke out and an important decision has just been taken, both by Sony, but also Insomniac.
Those who follow the news will probably not have escaped the storm that is currently shaking the United States. Next June, the conservative majority of the Supreme Court’s nine justices might indeed choose to overturn the Roe v. Wade who legalized abortion at the federal level in 1973. If this is enacted, it would mean that each state would be free to prohibit or authorize abortion. In the land of Uncle Sam, abortion is already restricted in 23 states, but others are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court. In a few weeks, it is therefore a possible historic turning point that the United States might experience and demonstrations are multiplying to defend the right to abortion.
SONY AND INSOMNIAC GAMES DONATE
In response to the controversy sparked by Jim Ryan’s comments in his email, Sony and Insomniac have decided to donate $50,000 each to the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP). This association helps women in need by accompanying them in their procedures (abortion, obtaining contraceptives, etc.). According to the Washington Post, the CEO of Insomniac, Ted Price, explained his gesture by sending an email to all his employees. For its part, Sony is planning to develop a program to provide financial assistance to those who must travel outside their state to access reproductive care. Despite these actions, the Washington Post article stresses that discretion is in order since, apparently, employees and Insomniac do not have to make public statements on these matters. Anyway, Sony wanted to react following Jim Ryan’s remarks and took a stand in favor of abortion like Insomniac, Bungie and many others.
