Regarding the level of play in Group A, from which Cuba qualified for the quarterfinals as leader and Italy as second, and which was completed by the Netherlands as third and bottom team Taiwan.
He stated that the level of play was “very high”.
“The level was a very high level, because the other teams had players who are in the Major Leagues. This tournament is for guys who are in the big leagues,” said Ortiz, who also works as a scout for the Kansas City Royals.
“I would have liked to have all the best, that gives the team more depth, but they weren’t there, we played with the best we have and I think we played well,” he added.
