A long-awaited prize list awarded outside Paris for the second consecutive year
The gastronomic guide born in 1900 chose Strasbourg, capital of Alsace and European capital, to award the 2023 Michelin stars, in the presence of starred chefs from France and from all over Europe. “Alsace is one of those essential French territories whose gastronomic reputation not only inspires our national culinary scene but goes well beyond the borders of France. (…) Alsace shines with the multiplicity of its know-how, its recipes and its products. So many assets and references that make it an ideal and natural region to present our new selection of restaurants »explained Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin guides.
Frédéric Bierry, president of the European community of Alsace, recalls the role of gastronomy in the region: “In Alsace, gastronomy is an integral part of the life of the inhabitants, which traditionally combines gustatory pleasures and conviviality around the table. »
This is the second year in a row that the star ceremony has been held outside Paris. Last year, for the first time, the Michelin escaped from Paris: its France guide ceremony took place on March 22 in Cognac (Charente). “Eighty percent of starred in France are located outside the Paris region”, justifies Gwendal Poullennec. This relocation project already planned for 2021 had been thwarted by the Covid-19 and will continue in the years to come, to respond to the desire of Bibendum to “reflect the diversity of the terroirs and highlight the work of the producers”.
The Red Guide awards are always eagerly awaited by the profession. The different criteria for awarding the famous stars are the choice of products, creativity, mastery of cooking and flavors, the quality/price ratio, as well as regularity. So who will succeed Arnaud Donkele et Dimitri Droisneauthe only two chefs awarded a third Michelin star last year?
