Foliage in Oregon, nella Rogue River Valley

The hills around Grants Pass have long been filled with dairies, vegetable farms and orchards that produce fruit like the pears gifted by Harry & David. The region is also known for its wine, but that’s not the only beverage in the Rogue Valley. Blossom Barn Cidery turns heirloom pears into a hard cider called perry. Perry is known as the champagne of ciders because of its fine bubbles and delicate flavors. It pairs beautifully with food, including award-winning blue cheeses from Rogue Creamery. Follow the Rogue Gorge Trail for a beautiful hike near the dramatic waterfalls of the Rogue River Gorge framed by fall foliage.

Trees aren’t the only things that change color in the fall; grapevines do, too. This makes it a great time to enjoy vineyard views while sipping wine. You’ll find crisp sparkling wines at Irvine & Roberts Vineyards, as well as delicious orange Gewurztraminers and views at Weisinger Family Winery. Plaisance Ranch is a working cattle ranch and winery. You’ll appreciate the owner’s warmth and his array of affordable wines that pair well with their organic meats.

The world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is happening in October, so grab your tickets and enjoy a bit of the Bard. The theater is adjacent to Lithia Park, a 93-acre area with ponds and hundreds of golden maple, ash, dogwood and cedar trees. The trails and paths are a haven for fall foliage. After a long day, unwind with a dip in the mineral springs baths and pools at the popular Lithia Springs Resort.
