TrendForce, a company specializing in research and analysis of technology markets, released a new report with its forecast for the foldable smartphone segment over the next five years, including the remainder of 2023.
The company’s survey estimates that shipments of foldable smartphones in 2023 will reach 18.3 million units, with a share of 1.6%. In 2027, the number is expected to grow to 70 million, that is, 5% of the global cell phone market.
According to TrendForce analysts, the foldables market is expected to increase following a reduction in manufacturing costs, especially for panels and hinges, which should also cause consumer prices to greatly reduce.
Furthermore, the expansion of product offerings by Chinese cell phone manufacturers should contribute to this process. By the end of this year, the Samsung expected to sell 12.5 million foldable smartphones, occupying two-thirds of the global market.
