This Saturday, October 28, 2023, the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) held its weekly general assembly at the party headquarters in La Minière. During the meeting, the vice-president, Fodé Oussou Fofana, spoke once more regarding the evolution of the transition.
According to Fodé Oussou Fofana, the main mission of a junta is not to rebuild the State but rather to organize elections for a return to constitutional order. “Since the CNRD has been in power, no Guinean has had visibility in this regard. What we are being shown is the rebuilding of the State, which consists of saying: we are going to build roads, this and that. Listen, we need roads, electricity, food self-sufficiency, it’s true, but is that the mission of the transition? I say no, the primary mission of the transition is not the rebuilding of the State, but it is to organize elections to put the country on the democratic path and at this level nothing has been done. In dialogue, we said that we do not participate because we consider that when there are a lot of people there cannot be any results. We have asked that article 77 of the transition charter be respected. Some left, they had a dialogue, there were ten (10) points of agreement signed and validated by ECOWAS, from that day until today, there is no visibility. Nobody knows where we are going,” he explained.
Further, Fodé Oussou Fofana believes that the CNRD is not in the logic of wanting to organize the elections. According to him, the situation is serious, because the prerequisites have not been made for the return to constitutional order.
“What we know today incontestably, the CNRD is not in the logic of organizing the elections. Where is the constitution, where is the electoral code? No one can tell you when we can get out of this transition, the situation is serious. Some people talk regarding a shift, if it’s a shift it’s one, two or three months, that’s the shift. But what didn’t start this is not a shift, we’re keeping the people busy. One day we will be called to tell us that it is first of all the rebuilding of the State before the end of the transition. Talking regarding building roads in the neighborhoods, talking regarding changing a government there are only 13 months left, you are not going to change anyone, you must assume responsibility with all members of the government until the end of the transition. This is all to sow confusion. We don’t want all that. We want the colonel to respect his commitments made on September 5, to organize the elections, that’s what we want,” he said before calling on party activists and supporters to mobilize.
“Continue to mobilize, to work, to convince Guineans of our social project. Be convinced that the next president of Guinea will be Elhadj Cellou Dalein Diallo,” he concluded.
