The Austrian Army has a new transport machine: Die Embraer C-390 Millennium is the most modern aircraft of its kind and is intended to replace the Lockheed C-130 Hercules. The Hercules has been in production since 1956 and has therefore been in use for almost 70 years. Despite its age, it is still considered the backbone of the air supply of many Western armed forces. The Hercules has been in service in Austria since 1999 and has so far been used primarily to supply soldiers on missions abroad. But the Austrian machines are already 56 years old and their maintenance is becoming increasingly expensive.
