Brazilian Fluminense, the South American champion, reached the final of the Club Football World Cup by defeating Al-Ahly of Egypt, the African champion, with two clean goals – today, Monday – at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.
The two goals for the Brazilian team were scored by Colombian John Arias (71 from a penalty kick) and substitute John Kennedy (90).

In the final, Fluminense will meet the winner of the other semi-final match, which tomorrow, Tuesday, brings together Manchester City of England (the European champion) and Urawa Red Diamond of Japan (the Asian champion), while Al-Ahly will meet the loser of them in the third-place match.
The problem of the Brazilian clubs continued for Al-Ahly and the Arab clubs, as Al-Ahly lost for the fifth time to the South American champion in the Club World Cup, in exchange for a single victory on penalties over Palmeiras in 2020.
The five losses are:
- Losing to Internazionale in 2006
- Corinthians in 2012
- Palmeiras in 2021
- Flamingo in 2022
“We missed many opportunities, and this is our problem in today’s match. We hope that the audience will support us in the next match.”

Fluminense gave the Brazilian clubs the eighth victory over the Arab teams, as the only exception was Raja Casablanca’s victory over Atletico Mineiro in the 2013 semi-finals and the Saudi Al Hilal’s victory over Flamengo in 2022.
The dreams of Al-Ahly players and Swiss coach Marcel Kohler of reaching the final match for the first time in the club’s history evaporated, so Al-Ahly went on to compete for the bronze medal.
Al-Ahly hopes to win a bronze medal for the fourth time in its history, following previously achieving it in the 2006, 2020 and 2021 editions, while it finished fourth in the 2022 World Cup.
Fluminense started its campaign in the semi-finals, similar to Manchester City, while the Egyptian team defeated the host, Al-Ittihad Saudi Arabia, in the second round and won 3-1 before facing the Copa Libertadores champions.
