The dizzying increase in respiratory virus infections in the population, especially among children, prompted the government to adopt such a measure.
In children’s hospitals in Greater Montreal, emergency room occupancy rates exceed 100%.
Our journalist noted that the crowds were low at the Chauveau clinic in Montreal.
Some families were there, but they are waiting to know more regarding the measures related to the flu vaccination.
“We will start with COVID, I think it is more dangerous for him. […] Before the holidays, for grandma and grandpa, that’s what worries me more. For the flu, we will see, ”underlines a father.
Others welcome the initiative to make the vaccine free.
“For the flu vaccination, since it’s free, we’ll go. [L’annonce de Québec] strongly encouraged us,” said another citizen.
Due to the current context, additional doses of vaccine might be sent to clinics to meet demand.
The Ministry of Health assures that the necessary personnel will be in place in the clinics in the east of Montreal.
“There are more online registrations for the next three days. I’m not telling you that it’s full, and the traffic is not monstrous and unmanageable […]. From now on, on the Chauveau site, 800 vaccines per day can be administered. We are around 200, there is really a lot of capacity left, ”says Caroline Saint-Denis, head of the vaccination campaign at the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
