Flu vaccination: the campaign is moved forward

The CISSS de la Côte-Nord is getting a few weeks ahead of previous years by launching its vaccination campaign today. However, the campaign will be targeted at those at risk as available doses are declining.

The flu virus is already circulating in the southern hemisphere, which has prompted the Health Departments to bring forward the vaccination campaign to start it on October 6th. It is now possible to make an appointment on the Clic Santé platform or by phone at 1 844 407-0967.

The seasonal epidemic will undoubtedly be more intense than the last two years, explains nurse clinician at the Regional Health Department Jacqueline Losier: “In the last two years, people have protected themselves a lot by wearing a mask. These measures are no longer required so the virus re-circulates. »

Recommended for whom?

The vaccine is offered free of charge to populations for whom it is recommended:

  • people aged 75 and over
  • people aged 6 months and older with chronic conditions
  • pregnant women with certain chronic diseases, throughout their pregnancy, and healthy pregnant women, during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of their pregnancy
  • residents of all ages in residential and long-term care centers (CHSLDs) as well as intermediate resources
  • people living in remote and isolated communities (Minganie, Basse-Côte-Nord, Fermont, Schefferville, Kawawachikamach), prioritizing those at high risk of complications.

“We are focusing for the next few weeks on people for whom it is recommended because we have a little less vaccines than expected. “Explains Ms. Losier, who recalls that for the rest of the population the risk of complications is not high.

Co-administration of the two vaccines

To encourage vaccination, the CISSS offers the possibility of being vaccinated once morest Covid-19 and the flu at the same time. This is only possible by making an appointment by telephone by calling 1 844 407-0967.
