The school year has only started a few days ago, and public health authorities are already announcing the launch of the next vaccination campaign once morest seasonal flu, which will begin on October 17, 2023. Details and explanations.
A vaccination campaign open from October 17 in mainland France
Every year, the beginning of autumn marks the start of winter epidemicswhose seasonal flu. It is therefore essential to start the vaccination campaign early enough so that vaccinated people are effectively protected when influenza viruses arrive in the country.
The vaccination campaign will begin on September 6 in Mayotte, then on October 17, 2023 in mainland France, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana. Like last year, four flu shots will be available in pharmacies:
- Vaxigrip Tetra®
- Influvac Tetra®
- Fluarix Tetra®
- Efluelda®.
To know ! From now on, the three vaccines Vaxigrip Tetra®, Influvac Tetra® and Fluarix Tetra® will be covered for all children, with or without comorbidities, aged 2 to 17 years. The Efluelda® vaccine is only reimbursed for people over 65 years old.
No prioritization this year in the order of people vaccinated
Like every year, certain categories of people at risk of severe influenza are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated during the seasonal flu vaccination campaign:
- People aged over 65;
- People with chronic pathologies;
- Pregnant women.
These people receive a voucher allowing the delivery and administration of the vaccine free of charge. All other French people who wish can be vaccinated by a nurse, pharmacist or doctor. New this year, there will be no prioritization in the order of people vaccinated. People not targeted by the vaccination recommendations will be able, if they wish, to be vaccinated from the start of the campaign.
A campaign coupled with that once morest Covid-19
Like last year, the vaccination campaign once morest seasonal flu will be coupled with that once morest Covid-19, offering the possibility for those who wish to be vaccinated once morest both infections simultaneously. But might the current increase in Covid-19 cases call into question the start of the vaccination campaign? For the moment, no, but public health authorities are closely monitoring the evolution of cases, which started to rise once more during the summer, thanks to gatherings and festivities during the holidays.
In recent weeks, Covid-19 indicators have started to rise once more in France, the number of visits to emergency rooms of all ages as well as calls to SOS Doctors. However, the incidence of SARS-CoV2 infection remains low on the national territory, and hospitalizations remain stable. The figures are far from those observed during previous epidemic waves of the virus. Public Health France also monitors the variants involved, particularly emerging variants. The launch of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign should be announced soon. For those who wish, it will be possible to be vaccinated on the same day once morest both infections, with one vaccine in each arm.
