Take out the tissues and brew the herbal teas, the flu is back. It was already very present last winter, “with a peak at the end of 2022, followed by a second, weaker peak between the end of February and the beginning of March 2023,” notes a press release from the State. After two consecutive years marked by Covid, during which the classic flu virus circulated less, “the collective immunity of the population remains lower”.

The Department of Health and Social Affairs (DSAS) reminds that it is possible to be vaccinated: “the best way to prevent the flu”. Vaccination is particularly recommended for people over 65, people with chronic illnesses or whose immune systems are weakened, as well as pregnant women, “who are most exposed to complications from the virus”.

Healthcare personnel are also mentioned and vaccination once morest influenza is now also recommended for people who have regular contact with poultry or wild birds. In the canton, it is possible to be vaccinated at a pharmacy or from a doctor, ideally at the end of October.

As a reminder, the typical symptoms of seasonal flu “come on suddenly”. They manifest themselves with a high fever – above 38° – chills, muscle or joint pain, headache and throat pain, cough, cold, feelings of dizziness and/or loss of appetite.
