In a special surveillance bulletin for acute respiratory infections (influenza, bronchiolitis and COVID-19) in the West Indies published on March 10, 2023, Public Health France observes a “rebound of the influenza epidemic to high levels” in Martinique. On the other hand, the bronchiolitis epidemic is over and the circulation of Sars-Cov2 is at a “low level”, according to SpF data collected between February 27 and March 5.
According to the health authorities, as in France, “all the indicators for monitoring the COVID-19 epidemic remained at very low levels” in the West Indies, from February 27 to March 5, 2023.
And “indicators return to normal in town and at the hospital for bronchiolitis” is reported, however, “influenza viruses continue to circulate actively”.
In Martinique, Public Health France observes a “flu epidemic rebounds to high levels”.
A clear increase in indicators in town and in hospital for flu syndrome was observed following the carnival holidays, particularly in Martinique but also in Guadeloupe; the type A virus remains predominant in Martinique while the type B virus becomes predominant in Guadeloupe (…).

The latest figures for this flu published by SpF show 1145 clinically suggestive recorded between February 27 and March 5 once morest 325 the previous week (from February 20 to 26), i.e. +250% of patients on Martinique territory.
“This assessment may change depending on the evolution of the circulation of the viruses responsible for respiratory infections” specifies Public Health France with its partners, including the ARS, the CHUM, as well as the network of general practitioner sentinels.
