Flu in France: nine regions have entered the epidemic phase

Nine regions of mainland France have entered the “epidemic” phase, compared to two the previous week, Public Health France said on Wednesday.

In un bulletin weekly published on December 7, Public Health France informed that seven metropolitan areas have entered the “epidemic” phase. This brings the number of areas affected by the epidemic to nine. Four other regions are in “pre-epidemic”.

After Brittany and Normandy, there are Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand Est, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur which are added to the list.

Overseas also the epidemic is gaining ground. Mayotte, the Martinique et the meeting have already been in the epidemic phase for several weeks.

Hospitalizations on the rise

As for hospitalizations, the agency notes a “very strong increase particularly among those aged 65 and over”. During the week of November 28 to December 4 (week 48), the number of hospitalizations following going to the emergency room for flu syndrome is 291, or an increase of 112% compared to the previous week. Among the 211 intensive care units, 32 serious cases influenza have been reported, and three deaths have been reported, “all in patients aged 65 or older”.

Vaccination and barrier gestures

In addition to vaccination, the agency recalls that barrier gestures “remain an effective way to protect once morest respiratory infections” and protect his loved ones.
