“A historic moment for Justice” was today described by the Minister of Justice, George Floridis, as the new institution of the Judicial Police, during the swearing-in ceremony for the graduation of 426 new chief constables and guards of the Judicial Police, which took place at the Police School of Komotini in the presence of the leadership of the Supreme Courts of the country .

The judicial police officers will take up their duties on July 31, 2024, meeting the needs of the country’s local Courts of First Instance and Prosecutor’s Offices.

In particular, the Minister of Justice described the new institution of the Judicial Police as a “historic moment for Justice”, as it “will contribute substantially to the improvement of its award” and continued: “We delayed 188 years to establish the Judicial Police Corps which was first decided in 1836 by Decree of King Otto”.

Mr. Floridis, during his greetings, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Justice, warmly thanked all those involved (Ministry of Justice and EL.AS.) who contributed to the quick completion of the relevant tender.

Referring to the practical training carried out by all the officers of the Corps at the country’s Prosecutor’s Offices, after their three-month training, the Minister of Justice emphasized that “he received very positive comments, which shows the readiness, professionalism and consistency that distinguish men and women women who will serve in the new Judicial Police Corps”.

“Your immediate superiors, the prosecutors, will find all of you valuable collaborators and helpers in their work,” underlined Mr. Floridis, addressing the new executives, stressing that by the end of the year, the procedures for the recruitment of civil staff will also proceed which will staff the new House.

In his statements after the graduation certificates were presented to the graduates, the Minister of Justice noted that it is very important that the state has decided to set up this House, which has an important role to play in the functioning of the judiciary, in the work of the prosecution and investigative authorities.

“Justice is the last refuge of Greeks against any arbitrariness of the executive power, the excesses of the legislative power and the illegal behavior of some of our fellow citizens. And it is called upon to play this role of guaranteeing that society can live peacefully”, Mr. Floridis emphasized and continued:

“Recently we have been making very big changes in the Judiciary, which are aimed at Greeks finding judicial protection at the right time and with the required quality. I believe that by the end of the four years things will have changed significantly for the benefit of the Greek masses and our society. The establishment of the Judicial Police Corps contributes in this direction”.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, the president of the Supreme Court Ioanna Klapa, the prosecutor of the Supreme Court Georgia Adelini, the president of the Council of State Michalis Pikramenos, the president of the Audit Court Sotiria Dounis and the general commissioner of the State of Regular Administrative Courts Ioannis Symeonidis.
