PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – In a significant outcome on election day, Amendment 4 failed to secure the required 60% of votes needed for approval. As a consequence, Florida will uphold its controversial 6-week abortion ban, which has sparked widespread debate across the state. Meanwhile, dedicated staff at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Panama City remain steadfast in their commitment to support women, regardless of the choices they face regarding pregnancy.
The Pregnancy Resource Center operates as a vital non-profit organization, providing a range of free and confidential services tailored for women in need. Their offerings encompass pregnancy tests, in-depth parenting classes, ultrasounds, specialized abortion recovery programs, and access to abortion reversal pills, among other critical services.
Officials emphasize their mission is rooted in compassion: they aim to love and assist every individual who reaches out, no matter their circumstances or choices.
“We don’t care what your mindset is, we don’t care where you are at, we have a resource for every single woman. All we want to do is help you, love on you, and talk to you,” said Abby Brooks, Director of Development for the Pregnancy Resource Center, highlighting the organization’s inclusive approach.
Brooks elaborated on the center’s abortion recovery program, designed to support women navigating the emotional and psychological aftermath of an abortion. This compassionate program creates a supportive environment where women who have gone through similar experiences can gather, share their stories, and embark on their healing journeys together.
The Executive Director of the center, Pati Adams, passionately leads the program, drawing from her own experiences of having undergone three abortions. “I endured surgical abortions, three of them, I almost bled to death, and these are some of the stuff they don’t tell you. But the biggest thing they don’t tell you is what happens after. The baby is gone, and now you have to live with that reality that you had three children, and they’re gone, and you can never get them back,” said Adams, expressing the profound impact of her journey.
In light of the recent amendment‘s failure, workers at the Pregnancy Resource Center express their eagerness to extend their services to a broader audience, reaffirming their dedication to women seeking assistance.
“It has been very cool to see the women who are abortion-minded walk through these doors and feeling hopeless and walking out of these doors with that sense of hope again,” said Brooks, reflecting on the transformational experiences witnessed at the center.
