The family of Floridalma Roque hope that in a short time It is possible to determine whether the remains found in a well on a farm in San Vicente Pacaya, in Escuintla, correspond to her missing relative. since June 13, 2023 following attending the clinic of Dr. Kevin Malouf.

José Roque, Floridalma’s son, confirmed to the media that he has maintained communication with the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to complete the process of full recognition and identification of the body.

“We are waiting for confirmation, perhaps this weekend or on Monday (between July 13 and 15)”Roque declared to the media from the Court Tower this Thursday, July 11.

Floridalma’s son recalled that Inacif assured them that they would be able to obtain the results of the forensic analysis within a month and a week, so they are outside of that deadline.

The human remains were found almost a year following Roque disappeared, on June 5th, inside a grave. The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reported that they were in an advanced state of decomposition and had been transferred to the Inacif.

The femicide prosecutors went to the point that Malouf referred to, regarding 29 kilometers away from the capital city. During a trip to the place, with a journey along the Pacific route, passing through Villa Nueva and Amatitlán, until reaching Palín, Escuintla, they reached the destination in San Vicente Pacaya.

The road to the “Barraca del Mezcal” farm, where the skeleton was found, is narrow and difficult to access, desolate and with dense undergrowth in the surroundings. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the place where prosecutors worked for hours to extract and collect evidence.

Discontent

This Thursday, July 11, the intermediate stage hearing, in which the judge decides whether there is sufficient evidence to take the case to trial, was suspended.

If the judge finds merit, he would issue an order to open a trial, formalizing the criminal proceedings once morest the four defendants in the case: Kevin Malouf, Luis Castro, Susana Rojas and Lydia Silva.

However, due to a failure in the audio system The hearing was suspended and rescheduled for August 21, 2024.

José Roque expressed his dissatisfaction: “All of this makes me unhappy. It’s not fair. I understand the deadlines but they are taking too long,” he said.

Previously, in an interview with Free Press y Guatevisión Newscastthe patient’s son, expressed deep dismay at Malouf’s reaction when Roque was first reported missing.

“The truth breaks our hearts. Where is the humanity? Where is the compassion for people? We as a family are deeply hurt by the way they acted once morest my mother, because we know that at 4 pm on June 13 she was conscious, asked for her phone number, and they did not want to give it to her. They do not want to say that because it is not convenient for them,” she described.

In addition to depriving her of the opportunity to communicate with them, she also reflected on how, despite having had time to save her, the clinic staff had not acted appropriately.

“We are aware that this is what happened and that she was not declared dead until 9 pm. They had five hours to save her, or to notify us as a family so we might see what we might do and take her to a hospital. Maybe today she would be with us,” he said with regret.

Throughout the search, Roque said that the family has cooperated and provided DNA samples since the case began: “We frequently went to the morgue and hospitals. At the Isabel-Claudina alert bank, they took DNA samples from us in case my mother appeared.”

They also kept in constant contact with the authorities, anxiously awaiting any news.

The family’s first hope came with the discovery of the human remains on June 5, and they are now waiting for a result from the authorities.
