A Florida woman will face justice following keeping her mother’s body in the freezer for more than two months in order to continue collecting disability payments.
The 64-year-old woman was arrested last Thursday and was also charged with tampering with evidence. The body of her 93-year-old mother was found following a wellness check was carried out in late April.according to the page Facebook from the Sebastian Police Department.
The 93-year-old woman’s daughter told investigators that he bought the freezer and put his mother’s body in it so he might continue to get his disability payments.
The department said an investigation showed that the woman died of natural causes and was dead for two weeks before her body was put in the freezer.
Investigators searching the property found “a badly stained mattress hidden in thick brush and covered with severed palm fronds,” police said.
The woman was being held in the Indian River County Jail on $10,000 bond. Online jail records do not mention whether the woman has an attorney defending her.
