Florida Softball Dominates Bubly Invitational: Game Highlights and Results

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The No. 16-ranked Florida softball team defeated Georgia Southern, 8-0, and Loyola-Chicago, 10-1, Friday followingnoon to open the Bubly Invitational at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

Game One: Georgia Southern

In the first game once morest Georgia Southern, Florida came out strong. Kendra Falby produced an infield single and then more impressively stole second base. Jocelyn Erickson’s hit her third SAC fly of the season in which Falby was able to score and give UF a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, junior Reagan Walsh hit a leadoff home run. In the fifth, Erickson hit a home run herself, to give the Gators a 4-0 lead.

UF ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Skylar Wallace blasted a home to produce a game-ending three-run home run. Freshman Cassidy McLellan led off the inning with her first career double, which was then followed by Falby’s career-high tying fourth hit in the game.

Game Two: Loyola-Chicago

The Gators continued to bring the heat in game two of the doubleheader. The Ramblers had a defensive miscue trying to retire Korbe Otis on a stolen base which allowed Wallace to run home. Williams then hit two-RBI single which allowed Ava Brown and Otis to run home.

Erickson had herself a game, wasting no time to stretch UF’s lead. She finished her eight RBI day with a bases clearing three-RBI double down the right field line in the bottom of the third that pushed the lead out to 10-1.

Brown received the start in the circle for the Gators once morest the Ramblers. She finished with four-complete innings, only allowing three hits and one run. Miller closed out the final scoreless inning with a pair of strikeouts, a walk and a hit.

Florida return to action Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10:15 a.m. once morest the College of Charleston.
