Florida Senate Passes Disney “Autonomy” Deprivation Bill Retribution for LGBT Education Law Opposition | Reuters

On April 20, the Florida Senate introduced a bill to deprive the state of Orlando’s “Walt Disney World” of special tax incentives and special control of firefighting, water, electricity, and roads. It passed 23 to 16. It countered Disney’s public opposition to a new law that banned LGBTQ topics in school education in the state. [Archyde.com]–On the 20th, the US Senate deprived the state of Orlando of the special taxation zone granted to “Walt Disney World” and special control of firefighting, water supply, electricity, roads, etc. The bill was passed 23 to 16. It countered Disney’s public opposition to a new law that banned LGBTQ topics in school education in the state.

Under the current arrangement, Disney is exempt from state taxes, etc., instead of being responsible for the self-management of the site area. The bill requires passage through the House of Representatives and the signature of Governor DeSantis (Republican).

Florida’s Child Education Act on LGBTQ was signed by DeSantis in March. Disney was initially criticized by people concerned regarding LGBTQ infringement because it didn’t say anything regarding the law. So in March, the company officially condemned the law and announced that it would stop all political contributions in the state. In response, DeSantis has asked the state legislature to deliberate on the counter-bill.
